Step beyond the falls. Volunteer at Nekacheya School and experience Livingstone not as a visitor, but as a neighbour — sharing your time, your skills, and your story with children who will share theirs right back.
The Tonga meaning of Nekacheya — and the spirit behind everything we do at this school.
Before Herbert Malambo founded Nekacheya Travel & Tours, he was a teacher. So was his wife, Grace. In 2008, the two of them came together with a shared conviction: that the children of their community in Livingstone deserved a strong start. Nekacheya Day Care & Preschool on Kwenda Road was born from that belief — and it has been a labour of love ever since.
Our motto is simple: Literacy for Life. We believe that every child deserves a strong foundation, and that the right volunteer — regardless of their background or qualifications — can make a meaningful difference in helping us deliver it.
Most visitors to Livingstone see the falls, spot the wildlife, and move on. Volunteering at Nekacheya School is a chance to go deeper — to understand the city through the eyes of the families who call it home, and to leave something of yourself behind when you go.
No formal teaching qualifications are required. What matters is enthusiasm, patience, and a willingness to show up. The children — and the staff — will take care of the rest.
Teach & Tutor
Support classroom learning in literacy and numeracy. Work one-on-one with children who need a little extra attention, or lead a small group activity. Every session makes a difference.
Sports & Play
Lead games, physical activities, and team sports in the school grounds. Play is learning — and the energy you bring to the field is just as valuable as anything in the classroom.
Arts & Crafts
Bring colour and creativity into the classroom. Drawing, painting, storytelling through art — whatever your skills, there is a group of eager young hands ready to learn from you.
Solo Travellers
Looking for a more meaningful connection to the place you're visiting — and the people who live here.
Gap Year & Students
Building real-world experience in a community setting while exploring one of Africa's great destinations.
Families
Give your children a grounding perspective — and an experience they will carry with them far longer than any photograph.

Flexible — come for a day or stay for weeks. There is no minimum commitment required.
Qualifications
None required. Enthusiasm and patience are all you need to get started.
